Greeting from the Head of School

Thank you for your interest in The Town School. As a school serving students from nursery through 8th grade, Town takes children on a unique learning journey that benefits them throughout their lives. Characterized by a dynamic partnership between students, faculty, and parents, a Town School education balances tradition and innovation in a way that both challenges and supports our students to develop their full potential.

Our school motto, Gaudeant Discentes, means “let there be joy in learning,” and is, in essence, the defining orientation of our school. It is evident in every classroom, on the athletic fields, on stage, and even just in the halls. Our facility – located on a cul-de-sac bordering John Jay Park and the East River – has been adapted over the years to meet the unique needs of our students and teachers. It is spacious and beautiful and helps to create an environment where hard work, inquisitiveness, character, and joy are in abundance.

I encourage you to browse our website and learn more about the ways in which Town can help your child develop a lifelong love of learning. While the website can give you a taste, an in-person visit is the best way to understand what makes Town special. There is nothing like the palpable hum of activity that is created when teachers and students are engaged in meaningful work together. Please make time to experience it firsthand.

We look forward to getting to know you.

Sincerely,

Tony Featherston
Head of School
