Town Announces Updated Mission Statement

Town's updated Mission Statement is designed to more clearly express the school’s values and aspirations while honoring the principles that have long guided the community.

The work began last spring with the goal of refining the mission so that it would be clear, concise, and reflective of the school today. Throughout the process, members of the Town community—including faculty, parents, administrators, and trustees—shared perspectives and feedback to help shape the final version.

The updated statement centers on Town’s longstanding motto, “Let there be joy in learning,” and emphasizes academic excellence, critical thinking, creativity, leadership, and resilience. It also highlights the school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse community where students develop confidence, integrity, and empathy.

Guided by Town’s motto—“Let there be joy in learning”—and grounded in academic excellence, we cultivate critical thinking, creativity, leadership, and resilience in our students. From Nursery and Kindergarten through 8th grade, our inclusive and diverse community nurtures confidence, integrity, and empathy. We empower our graduates to thrive in competitive secondary schools and to meet the challenges of a dynamic world as curious and caring humans.

We thank the many groups who contributed to the effort, including the Mission Statement Subcommittee, PA Council, Faculty Committee, Administrative Team, and Board of Trustees. Their collective input helped ensure that the final statement reflects the shared values and vision of the broader Town community.

With the updated mission now in place, the school looks forward to using it as a guiding framework for the Town experience in the years ahead.
